R. Nelson Parrish is a multi-disciplinary fine artist from Alaska who now lives and works in Southern California. He draws upon his personal experiences as key sources of inspiration to create artworks comprised of bio-resin, pigment, and wood. The result is a hybrid of painting and sculpture, a fusion of natural and synthetic materials.
"Susitna" is an early example from the artist's 'flitch' series. Its title refers to a mountain in Nelson's home state of Alaska also known as the "Sleeping Lady Mountain." The colors in this work are reminiscent of alpenglow on the gentle peaks of Mount Susitna.
