"My journey into ceramics began with an intuitive sense—much like recognizing the authenticity of a smile. Working with clay feels like revealing my true self, guided by memory, resilience, and my Korean heritage. Living in Brooklyn adds another layer, as the city’s textures and colors naturally infuse my work, blending past and present in a continuous journey.
After twenty years in fashion design, I bring a deep understanding of form, color, and composition to my ceramics. Inspired by the minimalist beauty of traditional Korean pottery, especially the moon jar, I reinterpret these influences through unexpected colors and layered surfaces. The kiln transforms each piece unpredictably—colors deepen, cracks form, and textures emerge—revealing both control and life’s imperfection.
This shift from fashion to clay has been a journey of self-discovery and artistic growth. My work reflects joy, pain, and resilience, inviting others to find quiet beauty and story within each creation." – Insung Yoon
