This August, Fringe is proud to present works by Karen Scharer and Amy Van Winkle, alongside selections from Fringe’s talented artists
Amy Van Winkle is a self-taught artist based in Santa Fe, NM, who primarily works in the medium of encaustic. Although she creates quite spontaneously, there’s always a hint of structure and control to her paintings. Space, time, and transition are common themes in her work. Her paintings are a dialogue of layers, with both transparent and opaque details, and they act as a visual representation of her own journey and explorations. The mountains, sunsets, and blue skies of both New Mexico and Colorado have a huge influence on Amy’s paintings.
During her 36-year successful painting practice, Karen Scharer’s work has transitioned from realism to abstraction, and from watercolor to acrylic to oil, a medium which has completely captured her focus and passion for the past 18 years.
Join us for the opening of this special installation on August 7th from 5 - 8pm during Telluride Art Walk.
